About National Night Out National Night Out is a night when neighborhoods host block parties, get to know each other, have fun, and visit with local law enforcement.
National Night Out began in 1984 as an effort to promote crime prevention, build community partnerships, connect neighbors, and strengthen neighborhood ties. Neighbors who know each other can help make their neighborhood safer year round. Millions of people and thousands of communities participate each year.
When is National Night Out?
The event is on the first Tuesday each August. The 36th annual National Night Out is Tuesday, August 6, 2019.
How it Works
Plan a block party. Join with your neighbors on National Night Out and have a block party or other outdoor event to build neighborhood spirit and familiarity. Block party planning tips can help you get started.
Register your block party by July 30, 2019. Representatives from Coralville Police Department, Fire Department, and City Council will stop by as many registered block parties as possible to promote community partnerships and facilitate communication.
